Star Wars Ukiyo-e art almost makes up for the prequels

I was thinking of saving this piece for an installment of Featured Fan Art, but this was too good to leave for a lazy Sunday afternoon post.

It's called "Samurai Wars" and is cartoonist Steve Bialik's humble attempt to reinterpret popular Star Wars characters in the style of ukiyo-e woodblock prints and through the lens of Japanese yokai folk monsters. It's awesome and I want to find it in ultra-high resolution so I can print a few up on a wall scroll.

Just check the work out in the gallery, or keep an eye on Bialik's site for some more work, as the project is ongoing.

I especially wouldn't mind printing up the picture of C-3PO and R2-D2 as "karakuri" puppets.
