Friendly's BurgerMelt: Worse Than KFC's Double Down?

Filed under:

Friendly's

We all know that the bun is easily the most boring part of a burger. So why not swap a stale old bun for something rich and flavorful like, say, a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches? Oh, wait. That's already been done. It's called Friendly's Grilled Cheese Burger Melt and it is, quite frankly, a heart attack waiting to happen.

"We place a thick and juicy 100 percent Black Angus Big Beef Burger between two whole grilled cheese sandwiches, complete with lettuce, tomato and mayo," said the restaurant chain has to say about their latest creation. "You'll have to taste it to believe it." Um, I think I'll pass.

Remember all the fuss that was made about the KFC Double Down? This sandwich makes the Double Down appear absolutely angelic in comparison. With the Double Down, you can at least understand the purpose behind creating something so nutritionally horrendous, since it's a product of the low-carb generation.

The BurgerMelt, on the other hand, is high in everything -- fat, calories, carbs, sodium and cholesterol, just to name a few.

Just how high, you ask? According to Friendly's Web site, one BurgerMelt has 1,500 calories, 79 grams of fat, 2090mg of sodium and 101 gram of carbs. That's nearly triple the amount of the Double Down. Of course, we're not encouraging you to pick up a Double Down instead, even if it is sometimes healthier than a salad. Neither are a good choice for your health or your waistline, but you knew that already.

BurgerMelt aside, it might be best to make Friendly's a rare treat instead of a regular indulgence -- you're going to be hard-pressed to find a healthy meal in a restaurant where even the Chicken Caesar Salad has over 1,000 calories.

But hey -- at least their food isn't as bad for you as the meals at this restaurant. Check out the 40 unhealthiest burgers that are served around the country.
